Do you ever work away from your home office or business and need to connect to the office pc? Or would you like to be able to access a friend’s pc to help them with a computer problem? Now and again I travel around and need access to my pc at home, and have been using LogMeIn for a few years. I have also used this remote desktop connection software to connect to my friends computers to help them manage or install aps, or just to guide them by looking at what they do. How To Use Remote Desktop Software – LogMeIn Step by Step.
1. You first need to create an account, click the link to go to the LogMeIn website and then on the right hand side click on Create an Account which is below the login box. Choose the option “Access Computer Remotely” and enter your details. You will then be asked to install LogMeIn on the computer, just follow the instructions.
2. You will also need to download the LogMeIn software on the pc that you want a remote desktop connection to which is very easy to do. Login to the computer which you want to access remotely, open the web browser and then login to your LogMeIn account, remember to have the LogMeIn website address handy. Once you are logged in to your account go to “My computers” menu if you are not already there. Then click on “Add Computer”, a pop up box will ask you to select the location to save the file, choose your location and then once the download is finished double click on the file to start the installation.
When the installation wizard appears, click next and it will show you the details of the account holder then click next, agree the terms and conditions, select typical installation, leave the description which is the name of the computer as it is or you can name it different if you want. LogMeIn will use your windows username and password for authentication. If there isn’t any password set on that computer then it will ask to give a pass code to be assigned to the computer during installation. Click next and then the installation is done. The computer is ready to be accessed remotely anywhere.
3. To access any computer attached to your account remotely. Login to your LogMeIn account then click on the computer you want to access, if the computer is online you will see the computer name in green (you need that computer to be connected to internet before you can access it) if it is not online it will be grey. Click on the computer then select remote control it will ask for your username/password or pass code for the computer, after you enter these details then you will be able to access the computer as if you are sitting in front of it.
When you install LogMeIn they automatically give you a free trial to LogMeIn Pro. Personally I find it expensive and the free version is good enough for my requirements. This remote desktop connection software is easy to install and there is no learning curve. LogMeIn works on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.
