Take a look at what a current owner has to say about this printer

E. Wade

After extensive research into a replacement quality printer for our home office with color, MFC (Multi-function), speed, compatibility, durability, volume, and low maintenance costs; we were nearly convinced that we would have to continue to budget a higher amount for a color laser MFC unit. And then we were told about this machine. More specifically, that an inkjet/bubblejet manufacturer had FINALLY listened to the consumers and produced an inkjet cartridge that has production volume to rival laser printers.
Quality is great, functionality is fairly intuitive, footprint is small, the two paper trays are sufficient size (250 sheets – including legal size), 50 page autofeed, wired/wireless networking, and easy setup.
Review Paraphrased for size – view original review here.

In short, the HP Officejet Pro 8500 is a very solid and reliable printer, producing crisp, sharp images and very easy to operate using the built in display.

Canon Pixma MX870. The Best Printer Just Became Affordable.

Canon Pixma MX870 Wireless All In One Printer

Our 10-year-old All In One Printer at the office had decided to stop working and was out of its warranty (actually by 6 years), so my boss asked me to find a replacement. Just up my street I thought as I love doing research and I know a thing or two about printers.
My budget was around the $200 mark and after extensive searching I finally came across the Canon Pixma MX870 Wireless Office All-in-One Printer.

15 of us work in the office and I needed to find out if the Canon Pixma MX870 was up to the job. So here are the most important things to look for in the printer.

How many dots per inch?

One of the most important features of a printer is of course the quality of the final print. The higher the resolution measured in dpi (dots per inch, which are the number of dots that make up an image) the clearer the print will be. This is especially helpful when printing photos or high quality flyers.
If you want to print photos then I would always recommend using a good photo paper, and set the printer to its highest level to get the sharpest most vibrant pictures. But remember this will slow the printing process down.

The Canon MX870 prints out at 9600 x 2400 maximum color dpi with tiny 1pl ink droplets producing sharp printouts, and brilliant life-like images. This is especially good for photographs, business documents or leaflets.

How good are the print outs from this Canon printer compared to other printers?

To give you an idea, inexpensive inkjet printers tend to print out at around 1200 x 1200 dpi.
More expensive printers normally print anywhere from 4,800 x 1200 dpi, which means that the Canon MX870 produces superior prints.

Note: The downside to high-resolution images or documents is that they use more ink. If the document is not important it’s best to print in draft mode, or a lower resolution saving considerable ink and money.
The Canon Pixma MX870 uses 5 individual ink cartridges, so you only need to change the cartridge that runs out, which will lower your printing costs dramatically.

One thing that caught my eye is that each cartridge has an LED in the print head that lights up when you install it. If any of the cartridges are not installed correctly, then the LED does not light up, simple but effective.

Print Speed

Time is money and for most users print speed is essential, as the faster a page is printed the quicker you can get on with the job in hand. But beware as manufacturers always quote the fastest speeds possible, which are not always accurate or truthful.

Black and white documents typically print faster than color ones. Canon claims that the Pixma MX870 can print a 10x15cm (9600 x 2400 dpi) colour photo in about 39 seconds. For black and white printing they quote a speed of 6.1ppm (pages per minute).

Is this fast for a printer?

No it’s not as fast as some printers, but the prints are excellent giving quality over speed, unlike other printers on the market.
After much searching online I found that the quoted print speeds from Canon are quite accurate.

Scanner Resolution

Copying documents and photographs requires a good scanner. The higher the DPI (dots per inch) and the higher the scanner bit depth, the crisper and sharper the scanned images will appear. The minimum resolution you should look for is 600 x 1200 dpi.

The MX870 can handle a variety of media up to 8.5 x 11.7 inches, and produces 2400×4800 dpi scans, which means the printed pages are crisp and very clear. I have read that the scanner is also very quiet, fast and efficient.

Canon printers use Dual Color Gamut Processing Technology which means when you copy a photograph or document, the printer will reproduce the colors of the original documents time after time, with no fade, keeping the colors in tacked. There are several options when it comes to scanning with this All In One Printer, for instance scanning to PC, PDF, Email and OCR, which stands for Optical Character Recognition and is the process of converting printed materials into text or word processing files, which can be easily edited and stored.

Super G3 Fax

The last thing you want to do is to tie up your phone line for too long. Fast fax speeds save money and reduce the time needed to send a fax. The Canon uses Super G3 so this means that it can send faxes at a higher speed than the normal G3 or earlier fax systems. You can store up to 100 coded speed dials with the Pixma MX870 saving you much needed time rather than having to dial each and every number, you can also store up to 250 incoming pages.

Easy as 1,2,3

Canon include a piece of software called Easy Photoprint. This program is essentially a basic but very handy piece of photo editing software. Just install the software on your computer and you have plenty of options to choose which enable you to edit and manipulate your photographs, and then print out the final images.
The software has a nice intuitive easy to use interface that anyone can use.

1. Firstly select an image from your computer, including external devices, (as many as you want),
2. Pick your paper type and size,
3. Finally choose the layout and print.

With Easy Photoprint you can also crop your image, correct red-eye, smooth facial lines and skin, and even brighten and sharpen faces.

Built in Wireless Fidelity.

Going back only a few years ago the only option you had was to connect the printer to your computer via cable.

Nowadays you can connect Canon Printers without messy cables as long as you have a wireless router, this is great because you can print or scan from different rooms in your office or home.

What puts many people off using wireless is the hassle of setting up the connection. After reading many customer reviews setting up the printer for wireless connection is really easy to do.

Great news because now you can print your photos wirelessly from a compatible iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPod touch device with the new Easy-PhotoPrint for iPhone App, available for free on the app store.
Also if you have a Bluetooth enabled camera phone then you can print to the printer without any cables, but you need to buy the additional BU-30 wireless Bluetooth unit for the printer which is around $45.

Ease of use

This printer uses a fully integrated 35 page auto document feeder, which allows multiple pages to be copied, faxed or scanned at one time without the need to place each individual page in the copier or scanner, saving you considerable time each month.

Auto duplex printing is a very handy option to have and not all printers include it, but guess what? The Canon printer does. This feature lets you print 2 sided documents without having to manually flip the pages. This can reduce your paper consumption by 50%, and means you don’t have to physically stand at the printer and turn every page over.

You can load paper from the front cassette which takes 150 sheets, and/or the rear tray (which also takes 150 sheets), which is great if you have large documents to print that use different types of paper.

No Computer, No problem

If you need to quickly print off some images and don’t want to use your computer, then you can do it from the printer. All you need to do is either insert a memory card in to the printer from your camera (CompactFlash, SD, MemoryStick and xD cards ), or connect your camera directly to the printer.

Using the bright 2.5 inch lcd screen together with the easy scroll wheel both located on the front of the printer, simply select the images you need and print.

Ok So How Much is the Printer?

The Canon Pixma MX870 printer is available directly from the Canon website for $199. The cheapest I have seen it is on Amazon who have been selling it for under $150.

Canon MP620 Printer Review

My Overall Rating:

By Johh Sanderz
Have you ever captured your favorite family photograph, then printed it out, framed it and hung it on the wall with pride for everyone to see, only to find out that over time, especially if the sun has shone on it, that the picture has faded?

According to Canon, prints from the Canon MP620 printer will last up to 300 years when stored in an archival quality photo album.

Also known as the Canon Pixma MP620 this device is a photo lab quality all in one printer, copier, scanner and is ideal for home or small business users. It has the added bonus of wireless and/or Ethernet connectivity which means anyone can make the most of its capabilities on a shared network.

The Canon printer comes packed with the latest technology, including 9600x2400dpi resolution, 1pl fine print heads for the highest level of detail, and Chromolife 100 which gives you rich, vibrant, long-lasting prints. Like many of the Canon printers the MP620 has 5 individually replaceable single colour ink tanks. But each tank incorporates an LED that flashes slowly to indicate when ink is low, or rapidly when the tank is empty.

I really liked the fact that you can print photos directly from a memory card, digital camera or camera phone, previewing and enhancing the images on the 2.5 inch LCD screen.

Buy this printer on Amazon here (cheapest price online).

The Canon MP620 printer is gloss black and silver and looks stylish, smart and compact.

When the printer is closed, it has a neat footprint, and when you unfold and raise the paper support at the back you have one way to feed up to 150 sheets. The other way is via a 150-sheet cassette, which slides in at the front, under the output tray. The output tray opens automatically when you start to print, should you forget to do it manually.

Lets take a look at some more of its features:

Auto Image Fix. Not every photo is perfect; that’s why Canon introduces Auto Image Fix. It automatically analyses your photo, and then enhances skin tones, colour contrasts and saturations. Simply scan, and edit them with the easy-to-use software.

Scanner Optical Resolution: The MP620 has a maximum resolution of 2400 (horizontal) x 4800 (vertical) dpi. Scan straight to PC, email or PDF. MP Navigator EX software makes every stage of operation easier, from image search to PDF document editing.

Quick Start gets you going in an instant. Switch on your PIXMA, and start printing or copying in as little as 4 seconds!

Colour Copy. A4 document colour copy speed. The advanced copy technology gives faithful colour reproduction on plain papers as well. Deliver high speed copy with beautiful photos and texts.

On Amazon the Canon MP620 Printer receives 5 stars from over 130 satisfied customers. Below is a review from a current owner.

M.Wood

This is an outstanding printer for the price. It took me about 30 minutes to completely set it up after opening the box and I had no problems with the wireless setup. The photo print is great looks just like you would get at a photo print shop.

Verdict

The Canon MP620 printer is a well spect, mid-range all-in-one machine, with the advantage of wireless connection and the flexibility of twin paper trays. I found it easy to set up with the user friendly manual. It prints quietly and the quality of the print outs are outstanding. For the price this is one of the best printers in its class, and even on par with more expensive models.

The Canon Pixma MP610 Printer: Save Time and Get More Done

Canon Pixma MP610 Review by John Sanderz

My Overall Rating:

If you’re looking for an All in One printer that is efficient, produces vivid images and documents and cheap to run then the Canon Pixma MP610 printer is for you.

This little powerhouse will transform your home office. Not only will it save you time but enable you to get more done, as I found it’s one of the fastest printers on test. The Canon Pixma MP610 can print (up to 9600 by 2400 dpi color resolution), and scan in vivid 4800 by 9600 dpi color images.
I really liked the fact that you could preview pictures in high resolution on its 2.5-inch TFT display, before using the simple scroll wheel to edit and print from a memory card, digital camera, DV camcorder, or even a camera phone.

The MP610′s photo quality is a strong point, and I found it just a small step below the best ink jet printers costing a lot more. Every photo qualified as true photo quality, at least as good as—and in many cases better than—you would expect from photos from your local drugstore.
The Pixma MP610 printer offers built-in duplexing and two 150-sheet paper trays for a generous 300-sheet total. The two trays let you keep both plain and photo paper loaded, so you can switch between photos and documents without having to change paper.
Once out of the box the Pixma printer was very easy to set up and the instructions were very clear and user friendly. Built around Canon’s five-cartridge ink system, the Canon Pixma MP610 printer uses a separate cartridge for each color—cyan, yellow, magenta, dye-based photo black, and pigment-based black for text. Making this a very cost effective printer.

The Canon Pixma MP610 printer Is ideal for Home/Office users wanting a fast, quality and economical all in one device.

If you are about to buy this printer- get it from Amazon here for the cheapest price online.

The Good
  • All-in-one printer can preview, scan, copy, and print
  • 4,608-nozzle print head, which produces vivid images and documents
  • In a hurry then use Fast” mode which is super fast and better than draft quality for documents.
The Bad
  • No fax machine, but not all users require one

Then Canon Pixma MP610 printer meets all expectations, easy to use, cheap to run because of the individual ink tanks, faster and quieter than any other printer I have reviewed. I would heartily recommend the Pixma MP610 from Canon. I think it’s a great product at a very reasonable price.

If you want to buy this printer, I highly recommend you by it through Amazon here. You won’t find it cheaper anywhere else.
